A Unique and Beautiful Safari Experience

The organisation of the entire trip and communication with Felix went very smoothly. Upon arrival at Mombasa Airport, a driver was already waiting to transfer us to our hotel in Diani Beach.

After two days of rest, we were collected early in the morning for our five-day safari.

Together with our driver-guide Franco, we travelled through the varied landscapes of Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks and saw many species of animals.

We stayed in unique places, particularly Ashnil Aruba Lodge and Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, both of which offered beautiful and breathtaking views.

Planning a safari from the Kenya Coast involves more than choosing a national park. These answers explain the practical details we are most often asked about by guests travelling from Diani Beach, including routes, private vehicles, accommodation, children, park fees and safari planning.

01 What is the best safari from Diani Beach?

For most first-time visitors, Tsavo East National Park is the most practical safari destination from Diani Beach. Its location makes it suitable for anything from a long one-day safari to a two- or three-day journey, and the park is famous for its red-dust elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes and broad open landscapes.

If you have more time, we can combine Tsavo East with Taita Hills and Salt Lick, Tsavo West or Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is especially rewarding for elephants and views towards Mount Kilimanjaro, but because it is considerably farther from Diani, we normally recommend incorporating it into a longer safari rather than trying to rush the journey.

02 Are your safaris private or shared?

Our road safaris are operated as private safaris. Your party has exclusive use of the safari vehicle and travels with its own professional driver-guide rather than being placed into a vehicle with unrelated guests.

This gives you considerably more freedom during the safari. If you are enjoying a lion sighting, photographing elephants or watching an interesting interaction between animals, your guide does not have to move simply because another group in the vehicle wants to continue.

03 Which vehicle will we use during the safari?

Our private road safaris are operated in 4x4 Safari Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs. The raised safari seating and opening roof provide excellent visibility during game drives and allow guests to stand safely for wildlife viewing and photography when the vehicle is stationary.

A proper 4x4 Land Cruiser is particularly valuable on longer itineraries and in sections of the parks where road conditions can become rough, muddy or heavily corrugated.

04 Are park entry fees included in the safari price?

Yes, when park fees are stated as included in your quotation, they form part of the safari price and you will not be asked to pay those fees again at the park entrance.

Your written quotation clearly explains what is included, such as the private safari vehicle, professional driver-guide, accommodation where applicable, meals according to the itinerary, bottled drinking water, park fees and applicable taxes. Any optional activity that carries an additional charge will be identified separately before you confirm your booking.

05 Can you pick us up from our hotel in Diani Beach?

Yes. We arrange safari pick-up from hotels, resorts, villas and private accommodation throughout Diani Beach and the surrounding South Coast area.

Your exact pick-up time is confirmed before the safari. For road safaris from Diani Beach, departures are normally in the morning so that we can make efficient progress towards the wildlife areas and maximise the useful part of your safari day.

06 Can children join a Kenya safari?

Absolutely. A private safari is particularly well suited to families because we can plan the pace around your children's ages rather than following the fixed routine of a shared group.

When requesting your quotation, please give us the age of each child. National park fees and lodge child policies are age-dependent, and having the correct ages allows us to calculate the quotation accurately and recommend accommodation that works well for your family.

07 Which safari accommodation levels are available?

We arrange carefully selected mid-range, luxury and premium safari accommodation, including established safari lodges, tented camps and more exclusive properties in or close to Kenya's wildlife areas.

We do not judge accommodation purely by price. Location matters enormously on safari. A well-positioned lodge can reduce unnecessary driving and put you closer to productive game-viewing areas, so we consider the property, location, service and overall route before recommending an option.

08 How far is Tsavo East from Diani Beach?

Tsavo East is the closest of Kenya's major traditional safari parks to Diani Beach, but it is still a substantial road journey. Travel time varies according to your hotel, traffic, road conditions and the park entrance being used.

From Diani we use the Dongo Kundu bypass connection, which allows us to join the Mombasa–Nairobi highway without routing through central Mombasa. The final approach to Tsavo depends on the itinerary and which part of the park we are visiting.

A one-day Tsavo East safari is possible for travellers with limited time, but it is a long day. If your schedule allows it, an overnight safari gives you a more relaxed experience and significantly more time inside the park.

09 Can you customise the safari itinerary?

Yes. Customisation is one of the main advantages of travelling privately with us. We can adjust the destinations, number of nights, lodge category, pace, activities and arrival or departure arrangements to suit your dates and interests.
